Obama Inauguration: President Obama Cupcake + Cookie

These are my favorite images from President Obama's Inauguration.

Red, White and Blue Cupcake
by Wonderland Bakery

Read the cookie.
That's right.
PRESIDENT Obama.

by Wonderland Bakery
Newport Beach, CA

The President Obama cookie is gingerbread and made by Wonderland Bakery, a local Orange County cupcakery. Rumor has it that Whoopie Goldberg gave President Obama a gift box of these cookies and he was hooked. They were ordered with the specially designed Presidential medallion for the Inauguration Balls.

The vendor, Wonderland Bakery is not your ordinary bakery. Imagine stepping into a real life game of Candyland and mixing it up with Pinkalicious. I'm not kidding. It's very pink and girly. Think cupcake heaven. That's where my pink birthday cupcake bag was purchased. Check out Wonderland's website.

P.S. Here's a little Obama cupcake trivia. Wonderland Bakery also sold Obama/McCain cupcakes and cookies during the election. McCain sales beat out Obama. Of course, Orange County is very Republican. Shades of John Wayne. But, look who won the election.

Congratulations to President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama!

Obama Cupcakes from Fluffy Thoughts Bakery

Story from the Washingtonian:

Obama Cupcakes are hot again. The Fluffy Thoughts Bakery in McLean, Virginia has been baking treats with Obama’s likeness since before the election, when she sold cupcakes to raise funds for his campaign. Now, with the election in the bag, she’s selling Obama cupcakes and cake toppers to inauguration-crazed crowds looking for a celebratory sugar rush.

A few inaugural-ball hosts have contacted Stuckey to make desserts for their events, and she’s taken tons of orders from private individuals hosting house parties to celebrate the inauguration.

Her most popular item is the Obama cupcake ($4). Using Shepard Fairey’s iconic Obama image, Stuckey and her small team of two create each Obama face out of white chocolate screened with the image.

According to the interview, Stuckey will take inauguration orders through Friday, but after that, she won’t be answering her phone. “We’ll be working around the clock this weekend, piping chocolate all night long,” she says. “I probably won’t want to see the stuff for at least a month afterward.”

Made by Little Cupcake Bake Shop, Bayridge, Brooklyn, N.Y.

According to the Huffington Post by Laura Weiss,
This "carbon-neutral bakery in Brooklyn, N.Y. come 'green jobs' cupcakes to celebrate Obama's environmental agenda. The $2.00 treats are topped with green, or red, white and blue icing and are emblazoned with slogans like 'clean energy' and 'hope has arrived.' The goodies will be sold from Jan. 11 to 20 and proceeds will go to the youth group, SustainUS, says Massimo LoBuglio, one of the bakery's owners."

Photo by Shasti O'Leary Soudant and Zilly Rosen

From the Smithsonian American Art Museum, website calendar:

"Artist and baker Zilly Rosen’s medium of choice isn’t paint or clay; she prefers flour, frosting, and fondant. In honor of Presidents’ Day, Zilly will create a portrait, A New Birth of Freedom, made entirely of cupcakes, which celebrates President Barack Obama’s inauguration and the 200th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln’s birth.

View Zilly’s temporary installation, comprised of more than 5,000 cupcakes, from noon until 5 p.m. from the mezzanine levels of the museum’s Luce Foundation Center.

Following the Presidential Family Fun Day festivities in the Kogod Courtyard, take part in the de-installation of this piece by sampling a cupcake. This presidential portrait is not only distinguished but delicious!"

"Cupcakes make people happy" greets visitors on the Swirlz website. Isn't that the truth. And these cupcakes are good reason to smile. Their cupcake menu offers more than the routine flavors of most cupcakerys. Swirlz's offers variety and unique touches like two tone frosting and unusual toppings.

Head Pastry Chef Beth proudly shows off her Obama Inauguration cupcakes. They come in mini and regular size cupcakes. What I liked about the Swirlz Cupcake menu is their daily inclusion of Reduced Sugar and Gluten-Free cupcakes for health conscious cupcakers. Swirlz plans to franchise. I hope they plan to open a store in California.

Fran's Chocolates
Smoked Salt Caramels

OMFG! Are these caramels delicious. The caramel is like butt-tah.
Crystalized smoked salt gives a kick to the creamy and smooth chocolate. These are to die for.
And I just might if they become a habit.
I received a small box of these in a gift box of cupcake supplies from Sur le Table.
Once you taste them you'll become a regular. They are heavenly.
They're also the favorite of Barack and Michelle Obama.
Which is why, no doubt, this Seattle-based chocolatier has become quite popular.
Of course, Fran's was named by the best chocolate maker in the U.S.

Mary's Cakes and Pastries
Northport, Alabama

Mary's website announces the sale of decorated shortbread cookies in celebration of the Obama Inauguration, albeit with some food for thought.

According to her website, meveany of Mary's customers voted for President-Elect Obama. Nevertheless, overwhelming conservative and Republican, Alabama's electoral votes went to McCain. What I did not know is that Alabama is one of three states that celebrate Civil War Confederate General Robert E. Lee's birthday on Dr. Martin Luther King's national holiday. You learn something new every day.

TastyPrints.com

Described as "delicious chocolate cookies with sugar icing," these cookies come printed with edible images of Obama. If you prefer you can have them in chocolate and eat them too.
