Frosted Cupcakery is a great cupcakery because they have great cupcakes and great customer service. I called them before leaving LAX airport on the drive back to Orange County. When I asked if they had any Strawberry Lemonade Cupcakes, the clerk replied, "Just one." She agreed to hold it for me. I arrived in Belmont Shore close to the 9 PM closing time. A sign on the door said "Sorry. All Sold Out." I was ready to walk away disappointed. But, on the back counter, there was my cupcake. All packed up and ready to go home with me.

Strawberry Lemonade. Topped with a petit candied lemon slice. The lemon cake was a moist blend of sweet and tangy. The strawberry cream cheese frosting complimented the cake, without being overly sweet. It was delicious! P.S. Try Frosted's Red Hot Cinnamon Buttercream if you get the chance. It's another favorite!

Yummy Cupcakes is a block away from Vanilla Bake Shop. At first impression, it seemed like major competition. Not really. Vanilla Bake Shop is contemporary and sells "grown up" cupcakes, whereas Yummy is more a fun-loving cupcakery. Oversized apothecary jars house cupcake toppers for every occasion. Your eyes are drawn to the jumbo container of rainbow sprinkles as you enter the Santa Monica store. Instant nostalgia. Every cupcakery has its own personality.

Yummy offers 174 cupcake flavors on their full menu. They have 19 different rotating cupcake flavors on their daily menu. They also offer a breakfast cupcake and gourmet vegan Cupcakes three days a week. You can find their website and full menu here.

My favorite? The Fluffernutter (Peanut butter cupcake topped with marshmallow buttercream swirled with a ribbon of pure peanut butter and a dollop of marshmallow “fluff.") They were sold out on my last visit.
